Negombo Fishing Harbour Excursion, Sri Lanka
|
Region: capital-colombo | Location: Negombo | Other regions: ancient-cities | east-coast | hill-country | south-coast | west-coast | Negombo used to be a small fishing village. Today Negombo has grown with the passage of time from a simple fishing village in to a prominent and popular tourist destination in Sri Lanka. Despite this fact the town still maintains its traditional fishing heritage. Representing the more traditional side of this rapidly developing nation, the Negombo fishing harbour is a destination that should be a part of any travel to the city.
As its name suggests the harbour is used extensively by fisherman trying to earn their daily living, which carries on a long established practice. This can be witnessed every day in the town, though visitors have to arrive early in the morning and before noon to catch glimpses of the boats arriving with their daily haul.
The fishing harbour presents one of those places to visit in Negombo that truly communicates and bring across the town’s underlying nature. Despite being a major tourist destination, at its heart lays a traditional fishing community and all that is associated with it. |
